Nicolet?s Welcome Center on wheels coming to a community near you
Nicolet College is taking to the road with its Welcome Center travel trailer. The trailer will visit community events so residents can access services and information about the college.
“Nicolet is committed to serving all residents in the district and this is yet another way we will bring service to residents, particularly those in the smaller, rural communities,” said Kenneth Urban, Vice President of Teaching, Learning and Student Success, “It’s really all about reaching out to the people we serve.”
The 26-foot pull behind trailer features two computer workstations, kiosks for video presentations, seating for students, and an outdoor awning area. It’s also wired to access the college’s computer systems for registering for classes, email, and other college computer services.
Nicolet purchased the trailer through the Federal Surplus Property system for around $3,000. Staff from the college’s Facilities and Information Technology departments then refurbished the trailer, turning the structure into a Welcome Center on wheels. Both departments used or refurbished items the college had in storage to complete their portion of the project.
“We encourage everyone who sees the trailer at a community event to take a tour and talk with Nicolet staff,” Urban said. “The college strives to offer something for everyone and this is a great way for area residents to learn about the many learning opportunities available to them.”
