Eldore “Butch” Marquardt, 73, of Rhinelander, died Monday, Aug. 12, 2013, surrounded by family at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston. He was born Dec. 30, 1939, in Rhinelander to Harold and Marie (Peterson) Marquardt. Butch attended schools in Rhinelander and then joined the U.S. Navy. Following his service, he returned to the area and eventually began his career with Rhinelander Paper Company where he worked for 30 years. Following retirement, he moved to West Point, VA., to be near his son, Peter and grandchildren; later returning to Rhinelander. Butch was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting and also served as a fishing guide on area lakes. Butch is survived by his four sons, Paul (Karen) Marquardt of Rhinelander, Peter Marquardt of West Point, VA., Shawn (Mary) Marquardt of Tomahawk, and Jon Marquardt of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; his former wife, Diane Marquardt of Iola, WI; three grandchildren, Matt, Kaddie, and Semra; a sister, Gloria Jean Nelson of Rhinelander; a brother, Richard (Janet) Marquardt of Rhinelander; and nieces and nephews including Terri Nelson of Rhinelander who assisted Butch as a caregiver.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Russell Nelson. A gathering in honor of Butch will be held from noon until 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at the Al-Gen Dinner Club.
