Viewpoint: Writer believes mine will not be good for northern Wisconsin
Editor:
We need to change history. We exploited them and stole their land in our Westward movement. The Railroad barons believed time was money and the path of least resistance was the best. Wealth controlled and bought the Native American future. The pockets of politicians were lined. We moved them off their lands onto barren land. They slaughtered their food source the buffalo. They were forbidden to speak their native language and to practice their beliefs. The children’s heads were shaved and they were force fed English.
There was the genocide of Wounded Knee, the pox infected blankets, the trail of tears. Yet we question the atrocities of Nazi Germany.
The smell of deceit and deception is again blowing in the wind. Northern Wisconsin is an easily played instrument. The preservation of the earth and the health and welfare has been clouded with smoke. Ceded territory is being threatened and the past and defenses are heightened. Our elected officials are making it happen and they commonly call it Mine. They thank you for your trust and apathy.
Our children deserve more. Food for thought.
