Fairway to Food outing will benefit area pantries

The inaugural Fairway to Food golf outing will be held Aug. 13 at the Northwood Golf Course in Rhinelander and will provide a day of golf for participants but will give much more back to the community.

The event will raise money for area food pantries including the ones in Rhinelander and Minocqua.

“We were kicking around some ideas and the Chamber used to do a golf outing,” tournament coordinator Tyler Jesse said. “This was the cause that we came up with and it is a great cause.”

The event is an 18-hole, scramble format, with a shotgun start at noon. The cost for a team of four is $80. Entry fee includes golf, cart, driving range, dinner, raffles and door prizes.

The tournament is sponsored by K-Tech Kleening, WJFW Channel 12 and the Rhinelander Chamber.

Jesse said a golf outing is a great way to get out and enjoy the summer.

“We kicked around a bunch of ideas,” he said. “But this was the easiest way to get out and enjoy the summer and have some fun all while raising money to help feed the hungry.”

With the tournament being a first year event, Jesse said the numbers are not where organizers would like and he encourages golfers to sign up and spread the word.

“The numbers are a little low right now,” he said. “So we are hoping that people will spread the word anyway they can. It really is a great cause and we will have raffles and hole prizes.”

For more information on the tournament or to register, visit www.wjfw.com or www.explorerhinelander.com for a link to the registration form.
