The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, along with Musky Clubs Alliance of Wisconsin Inc., will hold the National Championship Musky Open at the Vilas County Fairgrounds in Eagle River Aug. 16 through 18.

More than 1,100 anglers participated in this event in 2012 and organizers are looking forward to that many again this year. The National Championship Musky Open is a total catch-and-release tournament that provides fun for all ages and skill levels.

In 2012, there were 56 youth anglers and 72 husband-and-wife teams. Last year’s anglers registered 198 legal muskies, with 49.25 inches being the largest fish caught and released.

Presently more than 600 anglers are pre-registered and organizers are looking forward to another 500 anglers by tournament time. To receive registration information, register online at www.muskyopen.com or call the Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center at (800) 359-6315 until Aug. 1. After Aug. 1, registration will be taken at the Vilas County Fairgrounds (tournament headquarters) starting Thursday evening, Aug. 15. The cost is $50 if pre-registered by Aug. 1 or $55 if registering at tournament headquarters.

Registration includes a tournament hat and T-shirt and a chance to win a new 2013 Ranger Boat. Everyone who enters the tournament gets a chance to win the $35,000+ Mercury Powered Ranger Boat with a RangerTrail Trailer, whether they catch a musky or not.

For more information, contact the Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce at (800) 359-6315 or visit www.eagleriver.org.
