Alex Fortier pitched a complete game no-hitter as the Hodags fought off a good challenge from Lakeland in a 6-0 victory in Merrill. Fortier struck out 7 and walked 1.
The game was knotted up 0-0 going into the bottom of the third. The Hodags played small ball as Joe Schneider and Isaac Bixby executed back to back bunt singles. A subsequent throwing error allowed a run the plate to get the Hodags on the board.
After Fortier was hit by a pitch, Payton Johnson delivered a two run single to give the Hodags all the offense they would need for southpaw Fortier. Johnson went 2-for-3 to pace the offense. Also collecting hits were Fortier and Quinn Lamers.
The Hodags will next play Tuesday when they will face off against Antigo, who is the only other undefeated team still remaining in the double elimination tournament. Game time is set for 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Doepke Park in Rib Mountain (Wausau).
