Spring is always in the air at Forth Floral in Rhinelander. Right now, their greenhouses are filled with everything a gardener or plant enthusiast could want, including herbs, perennials, colorful annuals and vegetable plants of every variety.

Forth Floral is owned and operated by Ruth and Henning Hempel. Ruth’s parents started the business 112 years ago and Ruth and Henning bought the business 24 years ago. This couple and their friendly and knowledgeable staff enjoy the interaction they have with their customers, whether that’s answering questions about house plants, flowers or gardening in general.

One new item here is the Mighty ‘Mato plants that are actually grafted plants. One type of tomato, for instance, the Morgtage Lifter, is grafted onto another type of tomato plant that provides resistance to fungus, root or blight diseases. “Many of these plants are heirloom types that taste great but are prone to different diseases,” said Henning. “This is a way to grow these types of tomatoes and not have to worry about certain diseases.” These plants are also stronger and bear fruit sooner. In fact, many at Forth Floral are already sprouting tiny fruits.

In addition to the Mighty ‘Matos, the greenhouses are also filled with many other types of vegetables. There are other varieties of tomatoes, along with a wide range of veggies ranging from cabbage to zucchini. All these plants are healthy and vigorous, ready to be planted in gardens for a bountiful summer.

One of the most eye-catching experiences about visiting Forth Floral is walking into their greenhouses and seeing all the colorful annuals and perennials. Flowers of every hue, from electric yellow marigolds to bright red geraniums are wall to wall. Hanging baskets are plentiful, along with pots already planted up. And Ruth or Henning are more than happy to plant up containers their customers bring in.

Herbs are also in profusion here. Mint, basil, thyme, oregano and many more are offered. Perennials are always a favorite and Forth Floral has many to choose from. There are also plants perfect to use in miniature gardens that have become so popular.

In addition to all the beautiful plants in the greenhouses, there are also cut flowers in the spacious showroom. In addition, Ruth and her staff are accomplished florists and can create arrangements for funerals and weddings. They also provide wire services for deliveries far away and they have a local delivery service as well.

One of the best parts about shopping at Forth Floral is all the friendly help and assistance that is given by the staff. “Our employees are really knowledgeable about plants and gardening,” said Ruth. “We’re always ready to assist our customers any way we can.”

Forth Floral is located at 410 N. Brown St. in Rhinelander. They are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The web address is forthfloral.com and they have a Facebook page. The phone number is (715) 362-7600 or (800) 382-4942.
