The Eagle River Area Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center, along with the Eagle River Guides Association, will host the 33rd annual Guides/Kids Day Thursday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are looking for anglers to take kids fishing for the day.
Approximately 100 kids will take to the waters with a fishing guide or fishing enthusiast. Those who are interested in participating as a guide/angler may call Bill Hassey at (715) 479-7395 or sign up at Eagle Sports Center, located on Wall Street in downtown Eagle River.

Registration/sign-up will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Vilas County Fairgrounds on Hwy. 70 West for children ages 7 to 12 years. Also from 10 to 11 a.m., the Eagle River Guides Association will present fishing seminars.

A casting contest will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., a drawing will be held to determine which children will fish with guides. Kids whose names are drawn will leave for the afternoon to fish with their guides, and a bag lunch and soda will be provided. Kids who are selected to fish with a guide should arrange to be picked up at the Vilas County Fairgrounds at 4 p.m.

At noon, the kids whose name were not drawn to fish with a guide will board the Trees for Tomorrow bus and go to the trout hatchery in Watersmeet, Mich., to fish in ponds. A bag lunch and soda will be provided for these children. Kids who fish at the trout hatchery should arrange to be picked up at the Vilas County Fairgrounds at 3 p.m.

Kids may bring along their own fishing gear and life preservers; otherwise, gear will be provided by guides. Area bait shops will be providing the bait.

For more information about Guides/Kids Day, call Kim Emerson at (715) 479-6400 or (800) 359-6315.
