National Forest to delay opening of campgrounds and recreational trails

Much of the 1.5 million-acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest (CNNF) has experienced more snowfall than normal. It is anticipated that the opening of the CNNF’s 53 developed campgrounds will be delayed due to these conditions.

Visitors are encouraged to check the website or call the district offices to check on opening dates. Work will be done to get the campgrounds open as soon as possible.

Recreational trails across the CNNF will also be opening later than usual. All trails will be closed due to the snow pack and wet conditions until approximately May 17. Trails in the Lakewood-Laona District will open May 10 if conditions allow.
Conditions for both campgrounds and trails will be assessed on a regular basis. If there are changes allowing for earlier openings, the public will be promptly notified.

To check on the latest status of campgrounds and recreational trails, log on to fs.usda.gov/cnnf, follow CNNF on Twitter at http://twitter.com/CNNF002, or call the appropriate district office.
