Charity Wednesdays at Sunset Junction benefit those in need
When searching a menu for drink specials, it seems unlikely that one would come across an avenue for donation. Dave and Luvi Guole, managers of Sunset Junction Tavern in Rhinelander, are destined to change that. In November of 2012, Dave and Luvi, both longtime employees of the tavern, took over management and decided to organize a fundraiser that would unify their patrons while serving members of the community and local charities in need. Their efforts led them to create Charity Wednesdays, a drink special run every Wednesday that donates 25 cents per drink to an individual or organization in the Northwoods.
Nearing completion of its first month, the charity has raised hundreds of dollars in donations for local teen Easton Senoraske, who was diagnosed with leukemia in September. The idea behind the donation came from Jim Hagen’s Friends Helping Friends charity that raises money for children battling cancer.
Of her customers’ support and generosity, Luvi said, “Everyone has been so gracious and eager to give back to our community. We recently had a customer who was disappointed they couldn’t make it into the bar on a Wednesday and wrote us a check for Easton instead. The support has been phenomenal and we’re just getting started.” The Guoles are anxious to make the surprise contribution to the Senoraske family on behalf of Sunset Junction and friends.
The bar is focusing their April efforts on raising money for Wild Instincts Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Rhinelander. “We just spoke with Mark and Sharon from Wild Instincts and they couldn’t be more excited,” said Luvi. “We’re just focusing on helping where it’s needed most.”
