Looking for a duck dinner
Gary Garton of Rhinelander recently shared this photo of a bald eagle near the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce office. The eagle was watching a small flock of mallards in the river. Gary writes, “Up here, the bald eagles are just now getting started with nest building and preparations for the nesting season. In Minnesota, Iowa and southern Wisconsin, they’re already laying eggs and the nesting season is well underway. Because the bald eagle is primarily a fisherman, they need open water to find their favorite meals, although a car killed deer carcass is a good substitute when the lakes are frozen.”
