The revamped weight loss program at the YMCA in Eagle River now called “Y Weight” kicked off with a bang Monday, March 4. Twelve participants signed up to change their lives with sights set on not only losing weight, but understanding and committing to a healthier way of living.

The group was weighed and measured, and their blood pressure was taken. Participants spoke about goals and personal challenges the first week of the program. They were divided into two teams and picked slogans for their T-shirts. Then they began their first week of exercise and challenge games.

Lead trainer Mandy Rottier (whose company J. Rottier Construction is a major sponsor) is coach of Team Green while Cpt. Kevin Schweer is leading Team Purple. Both teams’ progress can be followed on the YMCA Eagle River Facebook page or by stopping in at the Y’s bulletin board located on the second floor of the NPHS Fieldhouse.

Participants have a chance to win a free year YMCA membership, along with other prizes. For membership information or to learn how to participate or sponsor, call (715) 479-9500.
