Letter: Penalties for killing animals, but not babies by Betty Lidral
Editor:
Recently, a local publication printed an article regarding the penalties incurred by several men who were convicted of involvement in the illegal poaching of bear. Penalties for that offense are quite severe, the largest one possibly amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.
It led me to realize that there is no penalty for taking the life of a pre-birth infant, an infant whose little heart has been beating for weeks, who could be squirming about in the mother’s womb, perhaps even thumb sucking. That is not illegal.
To paraphrase Shakespeare, “Methinks there is something rotten in the United States of America.” In the land of the free, some are even “freed” from the opportunity for a normal life!
