Hodags place first in Medford tournament

The 7th grade boys basketball green team placed first at the Medford tournament recently to cap off a successful season.

In game one, the Hodags easily defeated Abbotsford 71-17. A strong inside attack was led by Logan Freund with 18, Owen White with 16 and Brad Quade with 13 points.

In game two, the Hodags had a challenge from a ranked Altoona team. In a highly competitive game, the Hodags matched the size and strength to prevail 42-34. Brad Comer paced the Hodags perimeter attack with 15 points and Quade was right behind with 14.

The Hodags finished pool play with a convincing win over Auburndale by the score of 63-39. A balanced inside-outside scoring threat was too much for the Apache zone defense. The Hodags’ top scorers were White with 17, Comer 16, Freund 15 and Markus Johnson with 10 points.

Their final game of the season was against a ranked Marshfield Columbus squad in the championship game. Unselfish passing and sharp shooting allowed the Hodags to start the game with a 22-0 lead. The team demonstrated their fast-paced style of play to prevail 75-22. The 75 point total was the single highest scoring game this season in Great Northwest League play. Quade finished off fast breaks to net 18 points and was followed by the inside tandem of Freund and White with 17 and 13 points.

The Hodags finished the season with a 22-2 record, averaging 52 points per game while allowing opponents only 28 points per contest.
