It’s thumbs up for Randy Zadnik and his partner Becky Roesler, who have taken over the former Zippy’s in downtown Rhinelander. Today it is known as Zadnik’s Brick Oven Bistro and it’s evident the couple is determined to make their new restaurant a go-to place in the downtown Rhinelander area.

This cozy and inviting bar and bistro is decorated in a unique style with a Southwestern theme that throws off warm hues and an intimate ambience. There is a gleaming wooden bar up front, while tables and booths are located in a dining area adjoining the bar.

Zadnik’s is continuing the tradition of serving baked goods and every morning the aroma of fresh bread and donuts permeates the downtown area. Breads and rolls, donuts, danishes, bismarks and more are all ready by 6 a.m. so customers can enjoy their coffee with a sweet roll or a tasty muffin.

Diners will also appreciate the wide selection of appetizers served at Zadnik’s. Fresh fried mozzarella and bruschetta are favorites and the onion rings are hand-dipped, along with the chicken wings. There is also a delicious cheesy garlic bread as well as Italian fries that are frequently requested.

Lunch is served starting at 11 a.m. and the selection is varied and delicious. Hungry for a salad? Zadnik’s serves only organic greens in seven salad favorites, including a club salad topped with turkey, ham, bacon, cheese and tomatoes. There is also a Caesar salad and a grilled chicken salad on the menu.

Pasta dishes are also included. “The Lime Tequila Chicken pasta dish is really becoming a favorite,” said Randy. It includes a chicken breast, green peppers, onions and a tequila lime sauce serve over red pepper fettuccini. There is a Spicy Garlic Chicken Pasta dish as well as Alfredo and marinara sauces made to order, also served over pasta. Zadnik’s offers gluten-free pasta, too.

Pizza has always been a favorite here, and Randy and Becky are determined to make theirs the best. It is brick oven-baked and there are some intriguing choices on the menu such as the Margherita Pizza (it’s made with a basil pesto margherita sauce), a Chicken Bacon and Ranch pie and a Spinach, Garlic and Mushroom pizza for those willing to try something new.

Calzones are also on the menu and come in chicken, Italian and meatball flavors, or diners can build their own. Sandwiches and burgers are always a favorite and Zadnik’s has plenty to offer. “Our meat is never frozen and the buns and bread are homemade,” said Randy. The Smokey Bacon Cheddar Egg Burger is really decadent and the Black and Blue Burger comes topped with bacon, blue cheese dressing and crumbles. A Steakhouse Burger and a Pizza Burger round out the selection. Customers can also build their own burger creations.

There is also a wide range of sandwiches served at Zadnik’s. From the delicious baked meatball sub to the Philly cheese steak to the classic BLT favorite, all are made with the freshest ingredients and can be complemented by an order of fries or chips.

Kids are also welcome here and their menu includes a turkey dog, grilled cheese, chicken strips or spaghetti and meatballs. These entrees come served with fries, applesauce or cottage cheese as well as a beverage. Pressure-roasted chicken is also offered as a meal or carry-out in four-, eight-, 12- and 16-piece meals served with homemade coleslaw and dinner rolls.

Every day there is a homemade soup offered, along with a different dessert. Carry-outs are welcome and deliveries are made every day of the week.

Zadnik’s is located at 151 N. Brown St. in downtown Rhinelander. It is open every day at 6 a.m. for bakery purchases except Sunday, when it opens at 7 a.m. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 10 pm. Lunch and dinner are served starting at 11 a.m. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Zadnik’s is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., when the kitchen closes. The bar will stay open as long as there are customers enjoying themselves.
