Obituary: George A. Wells

George Wells, 97, of Antigo died Feb. 8, 2013, at Taylor Park Health Care Center in Rhinelander. He was born Aug. 8, 1915, in Tomahawk to Raymond and Helen (Pfiel) Wells. He is survived by two sons, George R. Wells of Wausau and Larry (Janice) Wells of Little Elm, Texas; three daughters, Clara Freeman of Auburn, Wash., Joan Wells of Rhinelander and Karen (Rick) Hanson of Wilkeson, Wash.; a brother, Kenneth Wells of Appleton; two sisters, Rosemary (Leonard) Plamann of Wausau and Margaret Melencon of Louisiana; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. Mr. Wells served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater in World War II. After the war, he worked as a logger in Tomahawk and as a heavy machinery mechanic in Antigo. He enjoyed the outdoors. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo, with Rev. Dave Karolus officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. (Carlson Funeral Home)
