Obituary: Arthur Forest Claflin
Arthur Forest Claflin, 88, died Feb. 1, 2013, at Milestone Senior Living in Rhinelander. He was born Jun 10, 1924, to Forest and Sylvia Claflin. He is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Jeanne) Claflin of Rhinelander, Alan (Billie) Claflin of Sheridan, Wyo., and James (Marlene) Claflin of Roberts, Mont.; a daughter, Gail (John) Michael of Longmont, Colo.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet, and a son, Jeffrey. Mr. Claflin served in the Navy as a gunner’s mate aboard the USS Dextrous (AM 241) in the Mediterranean Theater; near the end of World War II, he was assigned to the USS Great Sitkan. In 1970, he and his wife became business partners with Russ and Claire Jeschke, starting Rhinelander Auto Supply, which they owned and operated until their retirement. A memorial service will be held at a later date at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Rhinelander with Mr. Claflin’s friend Pastor Norman Peterson officiating. (Carlson Funeral Home)
