Making Tracks: A lot to look forward to in the year ahead
Well, it’s official: the new year is underway and in 2013 we at the chamber have some big plans. We are hard at work on our event schedule for the year. We, of course, will be holding the events you all have grown familiar with over the years but we also have some new events that promise to bring some new excitement to the calendar.
To kick off the month, the annual Lions Fisheree and Winter Festival will be held Feb. 9 and 10. The Lions Fisheree is an annual ice fishing tournament that the community has grown to look forward to each year and now we’ve expanded the weekend to include even more activities. The YMCA of the Northwoods will host a 5k snowshoe race on Sunday. On Saturday the chamber, along with the Rhinelander Soccer Club, will host the second Annual Broomball Tournament.
Teams can sign up now and registration is just $75 per team. Teams need to have at least six players, three males and three females. Each team will be guaranteed at least two games during the tournament. We wouldn’t be able to host the tournament without the support of our sponsors, BMO Harris Bank and R Value Insulators. The weekend will be headquartered at the Boom Lake boat landing and there will be plenty of excitement for both spectators and people looking to participate in one of the events.
Then on Feb. 23, we’ll be hosting the first annual Ho-Drags on Ice. This ice drag event offers a variety of classes for autos, trucks and outlaw vehicles. The races will be held on Lake Thompson just off the boat landing. We are so excited for this event and the support we’ve received from community businesses has been amazing! We have a long list of supporters and sponsors, including our major sponsors, West Bay Camping, Quality Collision Center, A-1 Septic Service and Rhinelander GM & Toyota. If you are interested in racing that day registration will begin at 9 a.m. Registration is just $20 per class plus $25 for insurance.
Spectators are invited to join us for the day as these cars race across the lake. The races will kick off at noon. Admission for spectators is just $10. We really hope you’ll mark your calendar to join us Feb. 23!
Then to end out the month, it’s time for the annual Northwoods Business Expo. The chamber, along with the Northwoods Entrepreneurs’ Club, will host this 6th annual event at James Williams Middle School Wednesday, Feb. 27. The expo will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Each year, close to 100 vendors participate in this event that draws in close to 500 spectators. This is a great opportunity for all businesses in the Northwoods to get in front of potential customers. Registration is now open for this event as well; register through the chamber. Booths start at just $50.
We are excited to get 2013 off to a great start and we hope you’ll join us and participate in one or all of these upcoming events. If you have any questions about the Broomball Tournament, Ho-Drags on Ice or the Northwoods Business Expo, call (715) 365-7464 or visit explorerhinelander.com/chamberinfo and we can get you registered or answer any questions you might have. We hope to see you all soon!
