Letter: Billions wasted on campaigns by Barrie Johnson

Nearly $6,000,000,000 was spent in this election, much of it by the Republicans. The Koch brothers alone spent $500,000,000 trying to buy the government. It would take one median income family 10,000 years to earn that much. The result? Zip, zero, nada. In this election, Republicans garnered 49 percent of the vote, the Democrats 51 percent, about the same as 2008. The result, which could have been catastrophic, instead turned into a huge belly laugh. Bush’s brain, Karl Rove, is being blamed for the expensive boondoggle, as he was the coordinator and driving force behind the effort. Does this disprove the belief that one must be intelligent in order to get rich? Nobody was twisting their arms to pour that money down the toilet. Had it been successful, the end result would be the economic destruction of their own consumer base. At least the broadcast media got rich on it. Hopefully, the Post Office got healthy as well.
Consider for a moment that money could have paid for the health needs of most of the world’s poor, or fed the world’s hungry for years to come. Or it could have offset the loss of profit for Corporate International as they reduce CO2 emissions to combat global warming. So many human needs could have been met. Instead, drooling stupidity chased the tail of insensate greed. Do you think they might have learned from this??? Nah.
