Volunteers needed at the Oneida Senior Center

Kitchen volunteers are needed weekdays at the Oneida County Senior Center in Rhinelander. The full kitchen shift is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., but any time volunteers can spare is always appreciated. Approximately 80 home delivered meals are packed up and delivered daily, and an average of 30 older adults is served at noon in the dining room. Helpers are needed between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to assist in clean-up. The Senior Center now has a state-of-the-art dishwasher, making quick work of this task. Volunteers also qualify for a meal at the donation rate of $3 if reserved ahead.

Volunteering is both rewarding and a chance to socialize with others. Additional opportunities to volunteer include home delivery of meals and escort driving. Mileage is currently paid at the federal allowable rate of 55.5 cents per mile and there is no income to claim for those ages 55 and older.

Those who have a talent or hobby they would like to share may call Stephanie, the center’s activities and volunteer coordinator, to talk about bringing it in as an activity at the senior center. Call her at (715) 369-6170 or toll free at (800) 379-7499 for volunteer or activity information. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a driver may call Mary at the same numbers.
