Obituary: Harvey J. Miller Jr.

Harvey J. Miller Jr., 92, of Nappanee, Ind., died Oct. 18, 2012, in Rhinelander where he had resided for the past three years. He was born Jan. 22, 1920, in Locke Township, Ind., to Harvey and Minnie (Mattern) Miller. He married Maureen Wiseman in 1943 in Salinas, Calif., while station at Ford Ord with the Army. He served from Jan. 1942 to Feb. 1946. He attended officers candidate school and became a captain. He fought on the island of Attu in the Aleutian Island, Alaska. He is survived by a daughter, Becky (Carl) Cory of Rhinelander; a son, Kerry (Joanne) Miller of Jamestown, N.C.; a sister, Jean (Bill) Matthews of New Orleans, La.; sister-in-law Anne Miller of Anacortes, Wash.; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one step great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife; a sister, Miriam; and a brother, James. Funeral services will be held in Nappanee, Inc. Carlson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
