The City of Rhinelander recently completed construction of a new wastewater treatment facility, located at 2775 Hwy. 17 S., that is now providing service to the community. This $24 million dollar project was constructed from 2010 through 2012. The project was made possible by many years of careful planning by the City and a favorable opportunity that became available with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Clean Water Fund funding program. Ultimately, this new facility was completed with approximately 50 percent grant funding that significantly reduced the expense to all city utility users.

On Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the City Wastewater Department staff will provide guided tours of the new wastewater treatment plant facility in an effort to recognize this important milestone in city history. Everyone is invited. The tours will be conducted in small groups and will offer those who attend an opportunity to learn about wastewater treatment as well as learn how this new facility provides valued service to the Rhinelander community.
