Rhinelander chapter of Optimist Club welcomed at banquet

On Tuesday, Oct. 9, more than 20 people turned out for the charter banquet that welcomed the Rhinelander chapter of the Optimist Club. The event was held at The Haven, and among those in attendance were Mayor Dick Johns as well as members of the Stevens Point Breakfast Club and the Merrill Noon Optimists. Also present were past governor Sue Van Dreser and current Optimist governor John Leonhard.
The Optimist Club, said Rhinelander chapter president Dave Manniko, is “a club that is out to help our community in childhood involvement. We are planning projects that will be fun for all ages, such as ice skating, bowling, golfing as well as educational interests. The Optimist Club is committed to bringing out the best in kids.” The Rhinelander chapter is planning an open skate Nov. 3 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The event is open to the community and free of charge. A non-perishable food item for the food pantry from those attending would be appreciated.
The Rhinelander chapter, which was chartered last June, currently has 14 members and welcomes new ones. For more information, contact Dave Manniko at (715) 499-3283 or Beth Manniko at (715) 499-1678.
