Letter: Republican decisions don’t follow logic by Barrie Johnson
Editor:
I’ve mentioned the amygdala in some of my letters. It’s the part of the brain that controls emotions. Mental health studies showed that a larger amygdala will cause emotion to overwhelm logical thought if a topic has an emotional content. We learned that is why Republicans vote against their own best interests, their logical thought processes are being flooded out.
From some responses to my letters, I discovered that they believe they are thinking rationally. To them, that knee jerk emotional reaction is intelligent thought, so cutting their own economic throat is perfectly reasonable. Let us understand what follows; you cannot think because of a flood of emotion, that lack of thought makes you unaware that you are not thinking, so you are unable to correct what you cannot even understand is wrong. The primary characteristic that differentiates humans from lower life forms is our logical thinking ability. Ergo, someone incapable of thought is not human.
The Republicans have written many laws attempting to restrict voting rights to their own select groups. Perhaps we should pass a law restricting voting rights to those capable of logical thought processes, in short, humans. The Republican Party would disappear overnight.
