Letter: Comment draws response from writer by Barrie Johnson
Editor:
Due to the importance of the coming election, I have been sending my letters to several of the surrounding communities, Rhinelander being one of them. The Star Journal has printed many of my letters. I recently accessed the paper online at StarJournalNOW.com to see if my latest had been printed, or if there were any responses.
To my great surprise, there was a familiar name. George Bratina from Spokane, Wash. He has been attacking me regularly in the Ladysmith News, to which I do not respond due to the astoundingly vacuous irrelevancies in his missives. To see an attacking response just cracked me up. I have my own personal attack poodle following me around Wisconsin’s newspapers, yapping at my heels.
My letter was about Romney refusing to show his tax returns, solid evidence of something serious he is hiding from us. George countered that some of Obama’s staff had not revealed theirs. It would be interesting to learn how the tax return of a staff menial would have any bearing on the issues. Then George brought out the big guns, pointing out that Michelle Obama was wearing a $6.000 blouse and carrying a $4.000 purse. Or was it the other way around, George? The inference is that she is expensively accessorizing at taxpayer expense. Get the picture? An emotional wedge issue to take our minds off the fact that Romney is not paying his fair share.
And then he called me a socialist. Again. He is at least engaged in politics, which we should all be. At least he is in there swinging. Everyone should be writing letters, debating facts and stating their opinions. If we did, the puerile nonsense of Rush Limbaugh could not stand up to scrutiny long enough for George to start parroting it. I await George’s next missive with baited breath.
