Marshfield Clinic Cancer Care welcomes oncologist

The Marshfield Clinic Medical Oncology departments at Minocqua and James Beck Cancer centers welcome Dr. Stephen Toothaker.

Effective Sept. 10, Toothaker will join Drs. Felipe Manalo, Matthias Weiss and Louann Zhang, as well as nurse practitioners Tammery Perry and Diane Tatrow, in providing cancer care for people in Northern Wisconsin.

Toothaker is board certified in hematology and oncology, and spent three years providing cancer care for Marshfield Clinic patients in Rice Lake. He received his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School in Hanover, N.H., completed his residency at the Maine Medical Center in Portland and a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester, N.Y. He’s a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology as well as the American Society of Hematology.

“One of the main reasons I chose to come to Marshfield Clinic in the Northwoods is the environment of caring for patients. Marshfield Clinic facilitates that care with leading edge technology,” he said. “Since being exposed to other system’s electronic medical records, I can better appreciate how Marshfield Clinic’s technology is a huge advantage in providing expeditious, quality care for our patients.”

Toothaker said the Minocqua and Rhinelander communities have a great need for cancer services.

“The people here are very welcoming and I’m so happy to be able to provide a needed service. It’s my hope to provide high-quality, compassionate care to these communities for a long time,” he said.

Toothaker was raised in a rural setting, and feels that the Northwoods will be a great place to raise a family.

“I have five children ranging in age from 1 to 11 years old, so that’s very important to me. I’m also an active outdoorsman and enjoy hunting and fishing,” he said.

“We’re very pleased to welcome Dr. Toothaker to our cancer care program in the Northwoods,” said Lila Kegley, manager, Medical Oncology, Marshfield Clinic. “He’ll be an exceptional fit for both our cancer services and our community.”
