Letter: ‘Special’ cats need a forever home by Paula Knapp

Hello, my name is Lovey, and I’ve asked my caregiver, Paula, to write to you.

I live at the Oneida County Humane Society (OCHS) Adoption Center with my sister, Marigold, and my friend, Willow. We are special needs cats, as we have feline leukemia (FeLV). This means that we cannot live in a home with other cats, because they might get FeLV, too. The disease is not contagious to humans or dogs, though.

At the Adoption Center, we are kept separate from the other cats. We get out in a playroom every day for a few hours, and then the room is cleaned and disinfected. We do not require any medication or other special treatment because of our disease.

My sister, Marigold, and I are very sweet and love to be held and hugged. Our friend, Willow, is very shy and quiet, but she is sweet, too. All three of us feel really great, and would love to have a home of our own with people who care for us.

Our caregivers at the Adoption Center treat us like we are “special” cats, and we know we are! My sister, Marigold, and I are very closely bonded, and we would like to live together.

We know that someone reading this will be our special angel and come to get us. Thank you for publishing our letter.

Paula Knapp, Rhinelander
Volunteer, OCHS Adoption Center
