The Red Cross is now mobilizing disaster workers to Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaac as it moves into that area in the next few days.

Carol Miller of Rhinelander heads to Mobile, Ala. on her second national deployment. Carol will work with the Staff Services team to ensure the ability of Red Cross staff to meet the needs of the people and communities by determining appropriate staff assignments throughout the relief operation. This important job focuses on providing a healthy workforce throughout the disaster relief efforts.

Laurel Cooper from Merrill, heads to Montgomery, Ala. to assist with mobile feeding routes throughout affected communities once Tropical Storm Isaac hits. This will be Laurel’s fifth national deployment working to provide meals, snacks, and water to those in need.

In addition, Nancy Uerling from Gleason was activated for her third national deployment to assist with disaster related Health Service needs. Christopher Rayburn joins hundreds of shelter workers in Florida to prepare to meet the needs for emergency housing.

Currently, in response to Tropical Storm Isaac, the Western Wisconsin Region of the Red Cross has deployed 30 volunteers and 1 staff member.

Isaac is expected to cause serious flooding throughout the region, and people can donate by visiting redcross.org, calling (800) 733-2767 or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
