Margaret R. “Midge” Hallas, 73, of Cecil, and formerly of Rhinelander, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, in Shawano. She was born on Aug. 25, 1938, in Marathon County, the daughter of the late Joseph and Effie (Childs) Lahr.

Midge graduated from DC Everest in 1957. On March 20, 1962 she was united in marriage to David Hallas in Fort Sill, Okla. Midge loved being a grandmother and looked forward to spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Along with her husband, she took each one of her grandchildren on a camping trip when they were old enough. Years later the fond memories that were created when camping with grandma and grandpa made them eager to request another trip. Midge also enjoyed putting puzzles together and was affectionately referred to as the “puzzle lady.” Midge was a loving wife, a nurturing mother and a caring grandmother who will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Rhinelander.

Midge is survived by: her husband, David; a son, David (Lori) Hallas of Rhinelander; a daughter, Margaret (Dean) Cook of Rhinelander; 5 grandchildren, Crystal, Joe, Ashley, Amanda, Lindsy; a step granddaughter, Stephanie; a great-grandchild; 3 step great-grandchildren; and 6 siblings, Violet Duberstein of Marathon City, Eleanor (Ed) Farrell of Cecil, Pat Goss of Showlow, AZ, Joyce (Donald) Guillaume of Schofield, Larry Lahr of Rothschild and Judy (Steve) Morey of Greenwood, Ind. HShe was preceded by her parents; a brother, Vernon Lahr of Weston; and a step grandchild, Jaime.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, Aug. 24, at MasonWoods in Cecil with the Rev. Loretta Waegli officiating. Visitation will be held at MasonWoods on Friday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
