Obituary: Donald R. Sabota

Donald R. Sabota, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at Asprius Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Nov. 23, 1937, in Wisconsin Rapids, to Robert and Kathryn (Harrer) Sabota.

Don was in the U.S. Army from Jan. 5, 1955 to Jan. 11, 1958. He married the former Nancy Kontney on April 29, 1961; they enjoyed 51 years of marriage together. He worked at Consolidated Papers for 38 years, retiring in 1998. Don was on the Board of Directors for Wisconsin River Credit Union for 23 years. He was a member of Bill’s Musky Club for 25 years, and was a guide for 10 years for the World Musky Hunt and for 10 years with C&R Guide Service. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a Third degree Knights of Columbus.

Don is survived by his wife, Nancy, their son, Ken (Kathy) of St. Paul, Minnesota, two grandchildren, Bobby and Jesse and a sister, Janice (Dan) Schulfer of Plover. was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be Thursday, Aug. 23, at 11 a.m., at Nativity of Our Lord – St. Joseph’s site with Deacon Dick Meier officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at 10 a.m. at the church.
