Rhinelander architect confers with Senator Herb Kohl at the U.S. Capitol
Laurie Goscha, Associate Principal of Bailey Edward, an architecture firm, located in Rhinelander, recently visited Washington, DC, to speak with Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl regarding Senate appropriations budgeting and legislation.
“It was a pleasure meeting Senator Kohl,” said Goscha. “Bailey Edward has been tracking planned spending on military, veteran’s hospital and clinic construction, and Senator Kohl clarified how projects are being selected for construction and where future spending may be heading.
“It was encouraging to hear that the needs of Veterans and the National Guard are recognized and supported by Senator Kohl,” continued Goscha, whose government work includes National Guard projects. “Their facilities are in need of modernization, and I made the Senator aware of the upcoming Army National Guard Readiness Center Transformation Master Plan scheduled to be presented to Congress at the end of this calendar year.”
Upon learning that Bailey Edward was located in Rhinelander, “The Senator’s face lit up and he noted that he ‘buys all of his shoes at Danner’s’ and was very familiar with the legend of the Hodag,” said Goscha.
She encouraged Senator Kohl to advocate for Wisconsin women business owners. Federal and numerous state governments recognize women-owned businesses as being economically disadvantaged and set goals for selection of these companies on government contracts i.e. Illinois at 7 percent, in contrast to Wisconsin with no stated goals.
