Letter: Understand the health care issue by Barrie Johnson
Editor:
Most of us received a Republican petition to repeal Obamacare, assigning many evils to this health care package. It is based on the Massachusetts model signed into law by the then Governor Romney. It covered 98 percent of the citizens, 75 percent of whom loudly approve. It included the individual mandate, a Republican idea advanced in 1998 for the Clinton health plan.
Google the website HealthCare.gov. That will give all the details of the health plan. Or you could listen to boogeyman scare stories from Republicans. At least understand what the issues are before you vote. Obamacare is a defective package in that it allows health insurance companies to rake billions in profits away from the health care system, benefiting only the stockholders rather than the American citizens we need to cover. We should have simply expanded Medicare to cover everyone. All other industrialized nations have a single payer system covering all of their citizens. We cannot do so because money and profits are more important than families in America.
An ever increasing number of people are unable to afford health care due to decreasing employment and increasing premiums. What do we say to them? Die quickly? Most of you claim to be Christians, yet your votes fly in the face of the teachings of Jesus. Few working class Americans benefit from the policies of the Republican party, so your monumental hypocrisy is exceeded only by your abysmal ignorance.
