Letter: Why are Catholics targeted? by K.M. White
Editor:
In response to a part of the letter from Lon Newman, the Executive Director of Family Planning Health Services (Viewpoint, July 8), the biggest sexual abuse scandal is that the news media and other churches, organizations, especially the public school system, have not stepped up and admitted that the Catholic Church is not the only one with the problem. In fact, it has been a much bigger problem in the public school system.
In the past, Catholic church authorities handled the offenders in the same way all others did, but now are being targeted as if they were the only ones who did.
Think I don’t know what I’m writing about? Type in the words “passing the trash” (words credited to public school officials.) Check out the information provided by “economist.com” or by “Christian Science Monitor,” “Church Mutual Insurance” and any other religion, youth organization and the public school system. Can be an eye opener, and should be of concern and definitely make us wonder why only Catholics make the news. Why are the statistics for the rest to be hidden from the public?
Now I’m not real computer efficient, as others will attest to, so if I can find numerous sites that state the Catholic church is not the only one with the problem, nor does it have the biggest problem, but is taking the greatest hits, so can anyone else, and definitely the news media, who should be reporting these “facts.” Why don’t they?
Is there an underlying purpose, like to try to financially destroy the church that consistently stands up for the rights of the unborn, and will not waiver on the issue of abortion, which is the ultimate child abuse?
