Annual Hodag Run set for June 30
The streets of Rhinelander will come alive with running shoes on Saturday, June 30, as the YMCA of the Northwoods hosts the 6th annual HODAG Run for Your Life 5K Run/Walk and 10K Run. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at StevensPort Square in downtown Rhinelander, and will conclude at the same location. Spectators are encouraged to cheer on the participants throughout the course. Scott King, SAM FM 100.1 will announce the race, and the Rhinelander Chamber of Commerce will be hosting a the Hodag Block Party immediately after.
Now in its sixth year, the race attracts hundreds of area residents and summer visitors to the area. All pre-registered participants will receive an official Hodag Run T-shirt. The awards ceremony at 10:30 a.m. will award custom Hodag medals to the top three male and female finishers in each age bracket. The top overall male and female finishers in each race will receive the special coveted Hodag Award. All registered runners are entered in a drawing that will see one lucky winner go home with a Trek bicycle donated by Mel’s Sporting Goods. The 5K race is open to all ages while the 10K race is open to individuals ages 12 and older.
A free youth race, Chase the Hodag, takes place at 10:15 a.m., with more than 100 youth ages 12 and under chasing Rhinelander’s Hodag around the Oneida County Courthouse and back to StevensPort Square. The first 100 youth participants receive a free Hodag Run For Your Life T-shirt along with a souvenir numbered race bib. Parents are encouraged to run with their children, push them in a stroller or carry them on their shoulders.
The race benefits the YMCA’s Strong Kids Campaign, which ensures that no one is turned away from the YMCA due to lack of ability to pay. Registration is $25 before June 20 and $35 after that date. Groups of 10 or more is only $20 per entry; group registrations must be submitted together to receive this rate.
