Letter: A historical miracle in Rhinelander by Helen Engstrom
Editor:
As I recently walked into Mel’s Trading Post in Rhinelander, I was amazed to find the store had the same integrity and look it did in 1943, when it was Montgomery Ward’s.
Today at least for those of us who used to work there are still around: Dorothy Poskie Le Brun, who decorated the windows; Virginia Wallen Priebe, who was in the men’s department; Urma Peterson, who was in the shoe department; and me, Helen LaRoche Engstrom, in the hosiery department.
My sincere thanks to Mel, and later Mitch Mode, who appreciated the building’s historical look and significance that harkens back to 1943.
Helen Engstrom, Rhinelander
