The Nicolet College Building Trades program is currently accepting applications for a home construction project for the 2012-13 academic year.

Each year Building Trades students build a home as part of the college curriculum, explained Brigitte Parsons, dean of Trade and Industry at Nicolet.

“The students work under the direct supervision of the instructor to ensure the home owner gets a high level of craftsmanship in the home and the students get the hands-on experience they need to enter the job market,” Parsons explained.

Throughout the construction process the emphasis will be on incorporating green building practices that result in a highly energy efficient home built in a sustainable manner, she added.

Preference will be given to applications for new home construction with square footage around 1,500 square feet and within a 30-minute drive from Rhinelander. Construction will start in September and will be finished by the middle of May, 2013.

The deadline to submit an application is June 8.

For more information, or to get an application, call Jeff Labs, Nicolet Building Trades instructor, at (715) 365-4675, or email [email protected]
