Letter: Walker doesn’t share Wisconsin values by Katie Kubisiak
Editor:
I grew up in northern Wisconsin, and I have always believed that Wisconsin is a great place to raise a family. It is a place where we value education; we value our neighbors; we value the environment; we value ethics and transparency in government.
Over the past year, Governor Walker has gotten away from these Wisconsin values. He had many choices to make in balancing the state budget. There was room to spread the necessary sacrifices fairly, but this Governor chose to balance the budget on the backs of a few. Walker’s choices show a stark contrast between what he values and what he perceives to be of little worth. This governor values windfall profits for corporations over a clean environment. This governor values company profits over technical schools to train workers. This governor chose to reward the wealthy with tax breaks, while he punished the teachers who educate our children. This governor needs a legal defense fund.
Walker’s agenda was set by big money and big corporations, and it tramples Wisconsin values. Matthew 6:21 says: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” If we value education, a clean environment, health care for children and a voice for all Wisconsinites, then it is time to place our treasure there. I still think Wisconsin can be a great place to raise a family. It is time to elect a new governor who shares our Wisconsin values, and will make better choices.
