O’Melia’s tennis season ends at Sectionals

Updated Wed., 5/23 – RHS senior Elliott O’Melia’s tennis season came to an end May 23 with a 0-6,0-6 loss to three-time state qualifier Max Hawksford from Hudson.

“It was a very tough draw,” said RHS Tennis Coach Bob Heideman. “Elliott gave it his all, but Max had a little too much game for Elliott.”

Heideman said that Hawksford used his 6’5” height to his advantage, using a kick serve that got up about head high on O’Melia.

“That’s a difficult serve to return when it gets that high,” said Heideman. “We tried to counter with coming inside the baseline to return, and it got better but not enough to turn the match.”

O’Meilia finishes the season at 13-14 as the team’s #1 singles player.

“After the sting of this match starts to fade, I hope Elliott remembers that his best tennis is still ahead of him and that his contributions to the tennis program over his four years far outweigh his won-loss record,” said Heideman.
