Our Turn: The great things about a book fair
Books can take us into a new world; to a mountain range with powerful winds and cold! Or they can take you to a paradise island that is full of wonders like sandy beaches, fresh tropical fruit…but hiding in waiting is a sinister evil. Using our imaginations is what books are for.
We can get books anywhere; libraries, garage sales or from friends, but there is nothing better than owning your own new book. Being able to open and read it whenever you want, that is why I read. It is an enjoyable pastime that, as I have said, takes you into a new world that you may never see yourself because you cannot get there or it is a fictional world you only dream about.
But you’re probably wondering why I mentioned owning your own books. Well, that’s because the Northwoods Community Secondary School Parent Advisory Committee is holding a Scholastic Book Fair May 9 through May 17. This fair is open to the public. Profits from the fair will go to NCSS PAC. Our PAC financially supports many student projects and also gives away a scholarship every year.
You may be saying, “Why go?” Well, if you go and buy a book, you will be able to get another book free that is of equal or lesser value, which, in my opinion, is an amazing deal! I mean, you’re getting a book for free, what could be better?
Now, I bet your thinking, “What’s the catch?” There is none. Need more details? When you purchase your book, you get your book right away, unless that’s the last copy of that book on the shelf. If there is only one copy left, you order and pay for the book at that time. The book will be held for you at the register, and then you just come back the next time the Book Fair is open and you pick up your book, that’s so simple.
The Scholastic Book Fair will have books for all ages, preschool through adult, fiction and nonfiction. You can also order books online through the NCSS Book Fair at bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/ncss.
The times that the Book Fair will be open to the public at NCSS at NCSS are listed below.
