Ilse Szews
Ilse Szews, 84 of Rhinelander, passed away on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at Grace Lodge. She was born on July 30, 1927, in Bielefeld, Germany to Heinrich and Marianna (Kokozinska) Meyer.
Ilse married Konrad Szews on July 30, 1947, in Germany and they immigrated to the United States in 1951, settling in Chicago, Ill. She was employed as a supervisor in the food service industry. Ilse moved to Lake Geneva in 1970. In 1984, she moved to Merrill and then Rhinelander in 2010 to be near her family.
Ilse was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church. She was a great cook, loved gardening, and was an accomplished seamstress which were skills that served her well while growing up in Germany. Family was most important in Ilse’s life and she will be fondly remembered for the love she shared.
Ilse is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Ralph) Hackbarth of Rhinelander; her son, Bernard (Sharon) Szews of Ozark, MO; four grandchildren, Heather (Jerry) Schallock, Kimberley (Steven) Gould, Kristina (Luca) Liscio, and Nicole Szews; three great grandchildren, Sydney, Jacob, and Shelby; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Konrad Szews on April 7, 1984; a sister, Martha; and a brother, Heinrich.
Funeral services for Ilse will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Nativity of Our Lord / St. Joseph Catholic Church with Deacon Michael Harvey officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery in Merrill.
