Financial control of health choices By Karen Schroeder
Editor:
Citizens who encourage pressure be imposed upon consumers of cigarettes and fatty foods work as hard to create an environment which encourages indiscriminate sexual activity. Some citizens want a significant tax placed on cigarettes to cover the cost of medical issues that result from this unhealthy habit. These same citizens want society to pay for medical items which undermine true sexual freedom. True sexual freedom results when the right of refusal is respected.
People who would not pay for another’s cigarettes want society to pay for contraception. People who do not want citizens to suffer the inevitable health issues caused by excessive smoking and consumption of junk foods want society to pay for medical procedure to deal with the sterility, cancers and STDs which result from a partner having multiple sex partners. People who do not want tax dollars paying for capital punishment because they find it to be offensive expect the rest of us to pay for infanticide, abortions and the morning after pill. They expect society to finance the social and economic consequences which historically result from those policies which precipitated the destruction of the family. The arrogance of these people is astounding, their selfishness disgusting and their theft of tax dollars should be considered criminal.
It is time that public outrage put a stop to all of these hideous taxes, fines, and healthcare burdens forced upon the general public. It is time that each person retains the right to make personal choices, assume financial responsibility for those choices, and that the taxpayers not be expected to finance the choices of another.
