Benoy, Erdmann compete at state level

On Feb. 24-25, Rhinelander Swim Club members Russell Benoy and Miranda Erdmann travelled to Waukesha to compete in the 12 and Under State Championship Meet. This being their first state meet, both swimmers were a little nervous but handled the pressure very well. Miranda and Russell placed in their events where they were seeded, and they even knocked off a little time in the process.

Even though they did not place high enough to receive medals or ribbons, they both agree that it was a great experience.

It was really loud, but still fun,” said Benoy. “Competing at the state meet was really a big honor, and it was cool to swim with the best swimmers in Wisconsin.”

“My first event because I was really nervous,” added Erdmann. “The officials started each race really fast, and it was hard to hear them and the buzzer.”

Both these swimmers also qualified for and are competing in the Midwest Regionals taking place in Minnesota on March 31-April 1. They will be swimming with the Northern Lakes Aquatic Club, along with 53 other swimmers from communities in North Central Wisconsin, under Coach Rob Meyer.
