Edward F. “Eddie” Salin

Edward F. “Eddie” Salin, 85, of Rhinelander died March 4, 2012, at his home with his loving wife at his side. Ed was born Nov. 14, 1926 to Frank and Mary Salin.

He was a lifetime resident of Rhinelander, graduating from Rhinelander High School in 1944. Ed joined and served two years in the U.S. Navy. After the Navy he worked various jobs until he was employed at the Rhinelander Paper Company, after 44 years of service, he retired as a stock preparation superintendent in1989. Ed’s greatest love, above all else was his family. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and papa to them all. He was also an avid fisherman and talented carpenter/craftsman. He touched many lives with his smile and humor, and made friends with whoever he met along the way. He will be truly missed.

Ed is survived by his wife Donna (Plouff), married on June 17, 1950, their three loving daughters; Cheryl (Terry) Carlberg of Santa Fe, NM, Kim (Mike) Spencer of Hudson, WI, Kelly (Bob) Smith of Bartlett, IL. Six grandchildren; Heather Spencer (Dan Burnam) of Hudson, WI, Ami (Gerson) Gutierrez of San Lucas,Guatemala, Jennie Spencer (Pete Orman) of Hudson, WI, Breann Spencer (James Schieck) of River Falls, WI, Kyle and Adam Smith of Bartlett, IL, three great grandchildren; Zach, Maysa and Alex Burnam and a sister, Agnes Thompson of Rhinelander, many nieces and nephews and his kitty, Skittles. Ed was proceeded in death by his parents and sisters; Ann Loesch, Elizabeth Edell and Martha Bertrand.

A memorial mass will be held Thursday, March 8, at 11:30 a.m., at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church – St. Joseph’s site, with Father Thomas Thakadipuram officiating. Visitation will be at church on Thursday starting at 10:30 a.m. until the time of mass. A memorial has been established in Eddie’s name and may be directed to the family.
