Swim Club competes at Divisionals
Fifty-four Rhinelander Swim Club members travelled to Tomahawk Jan. 28-29 to compete in the CWSC Divisional Meet. This meet qualifies swimmers to travel to Black River Falls for the CWSC Championship Meet this weekend. In order to qualify for championships, swimmers needed to place in the top nine in their individual events and/or the top six in their relay events. At the end of the two day meet, 34 swimmers qualified in one or more of their individual events, thirteen relay teams made the cut, and one swimmer made a qualifying state time.
Several swimmers placed first overall in their events. Jack Antonuk (7) placed first in his 25 yard Breaststroke (28.58 seconds). Russell Benoy (10) had a great meet by taking first in all four of his events; 200 yard Freestyle (2:47.79), 100 yard Breaststroke (1:38.63), 50 yard Backstroke (40.54 seconds), and 100 yard Backstroke (1:26.41). Miranda Erdmann (10) had a first place finish in her 50 yard Breaststroke (44.98 seconds). Grace Heck (10) placed first her 100 yard Freestyle (1:16.10). Kirby Kuehn (14) took first place in his 100 yard Breaststroke (1:19.15). Marissa Martin (8) had two first place finishes in her 25 yard Freestyle (17.36 seconds) and her 25yard Backstroke (22.08 seconds). Alex Stevens (8) took first in his 25 yard Butterfly (24.39 seconds). The relay team of Joseph Heck, Thaddeus Heck, Russell Benoy and Cooper Lindman took first in their 200 yard Medley Relay (3:10.62).
One lucky swimmer will be spending her birthday at the State Swim Meet at the end of February. Miranda Erdmann (10) qualified for state in her 50 yard Backstroke with a time of 38.66 seconds. A couple other swimmers are very close in times to also qualify for state.
