Swim Club finishes regular season strong

Fifty-seven Rhinelander Swim Club members competed at the Lakeland High School pool in the last regular meet of the season on Jan. 21, in preparation for the upcoming Divisional and Championship meets.

Several swimmers finished in first place in their individual events. Jack Antonuk (7) in the Boys 8 & Under 25yard Breaststroke with a time of 27.43 seconds. Russell Benoy (10) swam the Boys Senior 100yard Backstroke for the first time and finished with a time of 1:25.23. Miranda Erdmann (10) finished in first place in her Girls 9-10 100yard Individual Medley with a time of 1:28.00 and in her Girls 10 & Under 50 yard Breaststroke with 45.35 seconds. Grace Heck (10) took a first in her Girls 9-10 50 yard Freestyle with a time of 33.65 seconds and in the Girls 10 & Under 100 yard Freestyle with a time of 1:14.85. Alexandra Peter (16) swam in the Girls Senior 200yard Backstroke for the first time and finished with a time of 2:59.29. Eleanor Schiek (8) took first place in her Girls 8 & Under 25yard Freestyle with 17.82 seconds.

Three relay teams also finished with first place ribbons. In the Boys 10 & Under 200 yard Medley Relay, Joseph Heck (9), Russell Benoy (10), Thaddeus Heck (9) and Cooper Lindman (9) teamed up for a time of 3:11.54. Tucker Lindman (7), Jacques Tulowitzky (8), Kole Gechas (8) and Charlie Heck (6) joined up in the Boys 8 & Under 100 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:49.39. Alex Peter (16), Anna Catlin (13), Valerie Puza (13), and Melissa Walenton (15) joined forces in the Girls Senior 200 Freestyle Relay to finish with a time of 2:02.23.

Several swimmers dropped twelve seconds or more from their previous times. Annika Benoy (13) took 12.00 seconds off her 500yard Freestyle for a new time of 7:08.57. Brodie Kasmarek (12) took off 12.22 seconds off her 500yard Freestyle for a new personal best of 7:34.23. Cooper Lindman (9) took 25.92 seconds from his 100 yard Freestyle for a new time of 1:43.52. Trevor Marvin (9) dropped 23.50 seconds during his 50 yard Freestyle for a time of 1:52.67.

Some swimmers will travel to Black River Falls to compete in the Championship Meet on Feb. 4-5.
