Swim Club takes 2nd at home invite

On Jan. 14, the Rhinelander Swim Club hosted six teams during their Freezing Season Invitational. Approximately 250 swimmers attended the meet, including 73 Rhinelander swimmers. When the points were all tallied, RSC took second place.
Three relay teams placed first in their events. The team of Eleanor Schiek, Jaida Salaam, Mabel Spencer and Marissa Martin in the 8 & Under 100 Freestyle; the team of Marissa McGuire, Sayge Stojadinovic, Miranda Erdmann and Grace Heck in the 10 & Under 200 Freestyle; and the team of Brodie Kasmarek, Olivia Bowman, Elly Laggis and Anna Catlin in the 14 & Under 200 Freestyle.
Several swimmers did very well in their individual events as well. Kirby Kuehn, 14, placed first in three of his four individual events plus he also dropped 5.70 seconds in the 100 IM for a new time of 1:11.99 and 8.57 seconds in the 50yard Butterfly for a new time of 29.21. Julie Breivogel, 9, took 9.90 seconds from her 50 yard Backstroke for a new time of 59.76 seconds. Grace Heck, 10, took 8.42 seconds from her 100 yard IM for a new time of 1:34.95. Taylor Macak, 11, took an amazing 10.09 seconds from her 100yard Freestyle for a new personal best of 1:34.43. Valarie Puza, 13, took off 7.33 seconds off of her 100 yard IM for a time of 1:20.78. Sam Rutkowski, 8, took 8.26 seconds from his 25yard Freestyle for a time of 31.77 seconds and an amazing 14.78 seconds from the 50 yard Freestyle for a personal best of 1:32.86. Olivia Schindler, 9, dropped an incredible 15.02 seconds from the 100 yard Freestyle for a new time of 1:47.46. Finally, Libby Umlor, 11, took 8.02 seconds off her 100 yard Freestyle for a time of 1:31.83.
With the swim season starting to wind down, RSC will travel to Tomahawk on Jan. 28-29 for their Divisional Meet, and those with qualifying times will then make the trip to Black River Falls for the Championship Meet on March 4-5.
