Swim Club starts new year strong

Forty one area swimmers travelled to Phillips on Jan. 7 for their first meet of the new year.

Russell Benoy took off 39.28 seconds from his 200 yard Freestyle for a new personal best of 2:48.87, earning him a second place overall in the event. Anna Caitlin dropped seven seconds from her 200 yard Freestyle for a fifth place finish and a new time of 2:38.79. Miranda Erdmann took 8.49 seconds off her 10 & Under 100 Freestyle for a new personal best of 1:25.57 and a third place finish overall. In the Girls 8 & Under 25 yard Freestyle, Kylie Gechas took 7.6 seconds off her previous time a new time of 38.65 seconds, while Lulu Spencer took off 5.42 seconds for a new personal best of 40.83 seconds. Maria Kipper took off 5.04 seconds in the 11-12 50 yard Butterfly for a new personal best of 47.42 seconds. Morgan Melton has a new time of 1:03.65 after dropping 5.34 seconds in the Girls 9-10 50 yard Freestyle. Kody Price had a great day after dropping 5.38 seconds in the Boys 9-10 50 yard Freestyle for a new time of 48.93 seconds and dropping 11.07 seconds during the 10 & Under 50 yard Backstroke for a personal best of 1:07.15.

The Rhinelander Swim Club travels to Lakeland High School this weekend for their last conference meet of the season. On Jan. 28-29, the club will travel to Tomahawk for the conference divisional meet, and qualifying swimmers will move on to the championships on Feb. 4-5 in Black River Falls.
