BadgerCare cuts not in holiday spirit By Craig Strid

Editor:

This holiday is a time for some to celebrate a birth, a love of family and friends or to abound in a wrapping of human kindness. My son David every year activates a Christmas decoration that repeats the saying, “The spirit of Christmas lies in your heart.” My response is to give him an unreal response of Bah Humbug and to laugh, but silently I agree with his reinforcement.

I was just reminded that the state is considering the BadgerCare cut of $554 million dollars from seniors, children, families and disabled. Previously I heard cries of abuse, but if that’s so, who sets up the rules to regulate the funds? Why not tighten the belt there?

In America we never let our children go without the celebration of Christmas. The typical response I hear is, “We have to quit giving somewhere.”

I will echo David’s spirit to you. The spirit of Christmas is in your heart. It’s a time to reflect.

A merry and joyous holiday season to one and to all.

Craig Strid, Rhinelander
